   Information for Use

Product Features
Wellable UV curing FRP laminates appear as pale yellow soft membrane adhesive tape in uncured states and can be cut and tailor into any shape according to the engineering requirements. After curing under natural sunlight or UV rays, laminates form into a high strength, high adhesion, seamless seal, anti-corrosive, fireproofing and insulating cover layer.

Substrates Preparation and Prime Coating
UV laminates can be applied to a wide range of substrates including steel, concrete, plastic, FRP and others. Surface preparation can vary from dry and clean to grit blasted SA 2.5, depending on the application. Some applications may also require priming and repairs. In these situations, Wellable recommends the use of UV seal coating and putty.  In case of great difficulty existing for substrates preparation, such as substrates has been corroded seriously or high-altitude construction, 'Pre-curing and retaining joints' technique is recommended, by which substrates preparation is not necessary(Please refer to section 'Laminates curing' for details).

Laminates Pasted
UV laminates have two outer carrier films. Before applying the laminate, the bottom film is removed to reveal a tacky type surface, which should be applied to the substrate either directly or as a wet on wet application where the use of Wellable UV curing seal coating as prime has been recommended.  Pressing or rolling tightly is strongly recommended to increase the bonding and densification between laminates and substrates. To provide tension and reduce shift, the use of transparent adhesive tape is also required.

Lap Joint Application
The standard procedure of Wellable laminates requires the product to be overlapped by a minimum of 50mm. on pipe like applications, the "cigarette wrap" procedure is preferred with care taken to stagger the joints to eliminate unnecessary overlapping. On flat surfaces similar procedures should be adopted. It is important to note, when overlapping the material, the top film of the over lapping area must be peeled back to allow the laminates to bond together.

Segmental Curing/ Pipeline Mending
On segmental curing and pipeline mending applications, black sticky taps or aluminum coated films should be used to fully shade the joint areas from sunlight or UV rays and prevent from curing of laminate in such areas, by which could optimize chemical bonding and densification in joint areas during segmental construction or mending.
Laminates Curing
The top film of UV laminates can be kept in place until full cure has taken place, this will appear as a smooth glass like finish, removal of the top film before full cure will result in a mat and texture finish. The curing time of the UV laminates depends on exposure to UV radiation. Full exposure to strong UV radiation will see the laminates cure literally in minutes. Controlled exposure will see full cure realized in hours rather than minutes. In areas where applications are exposed to excessive natural sunlight, steps should be taken to shield the application area, which will help to prolong the working life of the laminates. UV lamps should be used to cure the laminates in areas where no natural sunlight is available.
In case of great difficulty existing for substrates preparation, such as substrates has been corroded seriously or high-altitude construction, 'Pre-curing and retaining joints' technique is recommended, in such case, laminates will be pre-cured under natural sunlight or UV lamps while the joint area remains uncured state by covering black sticky taps or aluminum coated films, fix the laminates on substrates through screws, expansion screws or rivets, joint the overlap areas and use small laminate patches to cover the fixing points, finally initiate curing procedure. By which, laminates could form a seamless sheath or sleeve without substrates preparation.
Once fully cured, the UV laminates can be overcoated by compatible paint systems. Please note the overcoating is not mandatory, however, additional overcoating should result in prolong protection of the application.

Multilayer /Layers Overlap Application
On multilayer or layers overlaps applications, layers of the laminates can be cured together by prolonging exposure time and reduce exposure distance. Under some circumstance, UV rays might be hard to penetrate the laminates due to multilayer thickness, curing separately and the use of UV seal coating are recommended.

Extra Adhesion & Seal
UV curing seal coating is strongly recommended to seal the conjunctions, overlap joints, segmental curing joints, separated curing and repairing areas of laminates to provide additional adhesion and seal in such critical areas through either brushing directly on the areas above and curing together with laminates or brushing on cured laminates which has been sanded and cleaned.

Holes Repairing/Online Repairing/High-pressure Repairing
Substrates preparation such as sanding and cleaning is required before repairing, laminate patch is user friendly for holes repairing, on online repairing and high-pressure repairing applications, plugging action should be taken firstly(kneading laminate ball is an option), pasting small laminate patch and curing under UV radiation, then full turn pasting by using large laminate strip. Transparent adhesive tape and clamp, glass moulds will be helpful for high pressure situation and UV seal coating is recommended.
Quality Detection
  1. Visual test: inspect bubble, pinhole, sundries, damage, inadequate curing and all joints.
  2. Spark test: Voltage4KV,    Speed5cm/sec.
Repairing/Maintenance
After sanding and cleaning the repairing area, brushes UV seal coating, pastes laminate patches and presses or rolls tightly, makes sure the joint areas are in smooth arc transition, then initiates curing procedure(Also available for pipeline mending and scaffold connection repairing).

Construction Environment
Wide temperature availability, laminates can be applied in all seasons around the year, but under no circumstances should the laminates be applied in wet conditions or on wet substrates. It might require the substrates surface temperature must be 3ºC above dew point and relative humidity below 85%.
